(*M) Picturing Your Future Self (Script)
- Due Jun 17, 2016 by 11:59pm
- Points 100
- Submitting a file upload
WHAT is the assignment?
At our face to face orientation, you will create a video in which you take on the role of yourself two years from now at the NCSSM Online Recognition Ceremony. In this assignment, you will draft a script of the video. You will film the video at orientation.
HOW Should I Complete It?
As a recent graduate of your local high school and completer of the NCSSM Online program, you are charged with giving your 2016 self advice about how to overcome academic obstacles and hardships. Encourage yourself, tell yourself that that low grade in --- class was not the end of the world, but rather it was the beginning of your excellence. Remind yourself that you got into the program because of your stellar academic achievements; and those achievements have all led to this day in which you are finishing up your high school career.
Using the description above, you will answer by thinking of your future self, what do you hope to get out of the experience of the next two years?
- As a second semester college student what would you tell yourself now about how you got there?
- What advice would you give other students about being successful at NCSSM online?
Directions (Script)
- Think about the prompts above.
- Write a script (in a Google Doc) that is at least 400 words in conversational language. 200 words is about the length of time to speak 75 seconds, as a reference In public speaking, a script helps you organize your message---you won't’ read from a script when giving an entire speech.
- Write your Key Talking Points below your script. Write 4-5 bulleted key phrases/points, not sentences, that highlight your key talking points in your script.
- Have you taken public speaking? You should be familiar with this technique.
- Not familiar with public speaking? Read the brief Talking Points/Notes overview at Writing Commons Links to an external site.(of Duke and Ohio State Univ.) When you film the video at Orientation you’ll speak from your talking points (and not read directly from a script).
- Submit the script and Key Talking points in Canvas as a Google Doc File, below.
- Review your script. At our on-campus Orientation, we want you to practice speaking using your talking points without reading from the script.
HOW do I submit this assignment?
- Create a new Google Doc titled “Picturing Your Future Self Script”. Place the file in your Scholar Development Portfolio.
- Submit the Google Doc as a Google Doc URL in Canvas.
HOW Am I Graded?
Your instructor will not make comments on your speech. They will mark the assignment complete or incomplete. If you do not meet the criteria for length and inclusion of talking points, it will be marked incomplete.
WHAT is Next?
Bring a copy of the script to Orientation, as you will refine and practice your script to prepare for creating your video.
