WHAT is the assignment?

Write 5 academic or professional goals (what skills, knowledge, interests, behavior, habits) for yourself within the context of this course or by the end of the online program (Summer 2019, as your prepare to start for college).  The write five areas of emphasis that you are excited to study.    See "How Should I Complete It" below on how to write your goals.

HOW Should I Complete It? 

1. Write five goals as complete sentences in your "My Goals and Emphasis" document (see submission directions below).  Your 5 goals should focus on five unique attributes you will accomplish.  DON'T focus on just technical aspects of the program or a specific course.

2. Write your emphasis as complete sentences.  Identify 5 potential college majors, jobs, careers, or employers that align to your academic and personal interests and in a sentence explain WHY you like that area of study.   Embrace your diverse interests and locate opportunities, programs, or colleges that let you combine your academic passions in or outside of class  (philosophy and physics?, electrical engineering and music?, economics and physical therapy? journalism and biochemistry?).

3. How will NCSSM help?  In two sentences, explain how do you expect your future self, in two years, to reach some of these goals or better define your academic emphasis?

4. Have a copy of these goals available for the WebEx session for this course.  We will discuss the goals in the session.

5. Create Your Google Portfolio Folder below before submitting (see directions below).

HOW do I submit this assignment?  

1. Log-in to Google Drive using your NCSSM account (not any other personal gmail account)
2. To create your Portfolio, go to CREATE-->FOLDER 
3. Name your new folder "First name Last name: Scholar Development Portfolio" (example: Jamie Lathan: Scholar Development Portfolio)
4. Right click on the title of your folder,
5. Choose SHARE, add the emails below as "can edit", AND UNCLICK SEND INVITATION.
6. Invite  Mr. Thomas (thomas@ncssm.edu), Mrs. Betz (betz@ncssm.edu), Ms. Hageman (kendall.hageman@ncssm.edu) and Dr. Lathan (lathan@ncssm.edu), and your Instructor.  
7. All of your other course assignments placed in this folder will now automatically be visible to your instructor and staff.

9. Communicate the link to your shared Portfolio (your new folder) to instructors by filling out the following Google Form Links to an external site.(takes 1 minute).
10. Create the document "My Goals" and place it in your Google Portfolio folder. 

11. Submit the link for your "My Goals" assignment here to submit the assignment.

HOW Am I Graded?  

This will be marked as a complete assignment once the instructor reviews your response.

• 20 pts.  Met Assignment Requirement for Completeness and addressed Criteria for Goals.
  
• 25 pts.  Met Assignment Requirement for Completeness and addressed Criteria for Academic Emphasis.
  
• 5 pts.  Google folder shared correctly
  

WHAT's Next?

You will discuss your goals and interests in the WebEx session in this class, and further use and refine these goals and interests at Orientation.  A future assignment, our Academic Engagement Rubric, will ask you to further explain some of these goals and interests.
