WHAT is the assignment?
You will use the resources in the NC Live and Finding Key Research Resources video to locate a scholarly article of your own choice.
In this quiz, you will just submit the information about the article you located. You will read and use this article in a later assignment, "Reflections on Mindsets"
HOW Should I Complete It?
We ask you to use the NC LIVE research database to locate the resource.
You can find any article on cognitive and non-cognitive learning (especially focused on high school or college level, which may use 'late adolescence or early adults or young adults') that doesn't duplicate or report on another resource we have posted in the next two modules. The article should not be an opinion piece or brief news story; we ask that you find an article/resource that discusses the technical issues of cognition and non-cognitive skills in learning. We prefer to say an 'authoritative resource" than a primary resource.
OPTIONALLY watch our video "How to Find High Impact Research Links to an external site." if you are struggling on how to search for an article.
You will need to read ahead/watch some of the resources posted in the next modules to be able to find the correct 'search terms'---as simply typing "cognitive learning" into NC LIVE won't be helpful. Find a resource you are able to read and comprehend, some resources may be too specific or in-depth to be useful at this stage.
HOW do I submit this assignment?
Open the Google Doc Template Links to an external site., Resave, and submit
- Article Title
- The Article author
- What is the author's credentials/expertise (you may have to look this up separately)
- The publisher of the article
- What is the publisher's credentials/expertise? (you may have to look this up separately)
- Volume, Edition, and Page Number (if applicable)
- Explain why this is an 'authoritative' resource on the topic.
- The URL for the resource
HOW Am I Graded?
This will be marked complete by the instructor once they review your answers. If you do not answer all the prompts, it will be marked incomplete.
WHAT is next?
You will use the additional reading to support your answers in the upcoming assignments on "Mindsets." Additionally, you have learned "Google" is not the best tool to find answers to academic research questions
