Advanced Functions and Modeling is a mathematics course being offered in North Carolina high schools. Since UNC requires four units of mathematics for admission, students who would normally not continue in a math course after Algebra 2 will need another mathematics course. The AFM course is designed to fulfill that requirement.
Many of the students enrolled in this course will be students who will see mathematics in their future only within a real world context. Therefore AFM will focus on the mathematics in the real world and creating mathematical models.
The purpose of this web site is to provide North Carolina teachers with supplementary materials for the teaching of Advanced Functions and Modeling. Materials were developed or identified through the Educator-on-Loan positions in the mathematics department of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.
